Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Traffic Management & Road Safety team at Swindon Borough Council. If you are a team player looking to accelerate your career within a highly supportive and friendly working environment this could be the role for you.
At Swindon Borough Council we have a clear vision of what we want the future to look like. We are ranked
in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK and are seeking to reflect this level of innovation in the way we deliver council services. We want Swindon to be a place that communities are proud to be a part of.
Swindon's Highways and Transport team has a critical role in managing and improving our highway and transport network and in supporting our growing business and residential populations. Balancing demands and current and future transport needs through our works programmes, policies and vision is key to ensuring that we have an effective and efficient highway and transport network able to help Swindon achieve its potential.
We believe that the success of our vision will depend on the very people working within the council. Joining Swindon Borough Council as our Senior Assistant Traffic Engineer is your chance to make a difference.
As Senior Assistant Traffic Engineer you will be a member of a small team responsible for the identification, prioritisation and delivery of traffic management and road safety improvements in accordance with council policy and statutory requirements. The role offers an opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects, working with colleagues across the organisation, plus external partners whilst developing your skills in applying traffic management and road safety principles across a breadth of scenarios.
Responsibilities include managing the Council's accident database, accident analysis and the delivery of schemes from beginning to end including design, co-ordination of projects, liaison with stakeholders and project budget management.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the personal specification requirements including extensive experience in accident investigation; formulation of traffic management and road safety measures and familiarity with specialist software. In addition applicants must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act - for the effective performance of a customer-facing role) and must be able to travel throughout the Borough.
We feel a work life balance is important for our team members. As such Swindon operates flexible working and offers a generous leave entitlement.
