Job description
Swindon Museums & Heritage is responsible for Swindon Borough Council's historic Agricultural Collections. This collection was brought together during the 1970s, and includes everything from large farm carts and tractors to horseshoes and hand tools.
Work will focus on assessing the condition and significance of items within Agricultural Collections,
and recommending items for retention or disposal. All work will be guided by standards set out by SPECTRUM, Arts Council England Accreditation and Swindon Borough Council (including those with the Museums & Heritage Service).
As the successful candidate, you will be a museum professional with experience of museum collections development, documentation and care. You will work within Swindon Museums & Heritage Service (which runs two Accredited museums: STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway and Lydiard House), and will liaise with internal curatorial colleagues at Swindon Museum & Art Gallery. You will also work with the wider local, regional and national museum community.
You will be an effective communicator and should be able to communicate clearly and concisely. You will be well-organised, professional and flexible, with the ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act - for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
This role is 37 hours per week and a 12 month fixed term contract.
