Are you calm, patient and understanding and would like to work with vulnerable children or adults? If so, this might just be the job for you. Due to increasing demand for Special Needs and Social Care transport we are looking to increase our pool of Relief Special Needs Escorts.
In this rewarding role you will be responsible for the supervision and care of service users whilst they are travelling to and from schools, day centres and social services centres on Council-provided transport. You will provide assistance if necessary. With your excellent communication skills you will also act as a liaison between parents/carers and schools/centres at handover of service users in your care.
Most of our Escorts work term-time on school transport, doing morning and afternoon runs Monday to Friday, but we can have other jobs each day (including weekends) such as taking looked-after children to and from contact visits and activities.
Initially you will be employed as a casual Escort, doing on-the-job training shadowing other Escorts, then you will be called upon to cover gaps in the service, on different routes on an ad hoc basis, helping ensure our service users get to where they need to go, building experience in different special needs as you work.
Whilst as a casual no hours can be guaranteed from day-to-day, in practice our existing pool of Relief Escorts are all in use most days, and demands on the service are increasing. You claim for your hours worked on a monthly timesheet and you are paid from the moment the transport collects you from home, to the moment you return. It is also up to you how many hours you are willing to make yourself available for, and you are under no obligation to accept work offered.
As your experience grows, permanent routes often become available and you may be successful in getting your own regular route, like many of our current permanent Escorts have done.
You will have some knowledge or experience of special needs, be able to make everyday decisions in challenging settings and have undertaken (or a willingness to undertake) appropriate training for the role. Due to the nature of this role you will also be required to be physically able.Various hours available.
A DBS disclosure will be required.
Closing date: 31st July 2015
